Wooden boat lover keeps historic boat-building alive. one of the best things about the deltaville maritime museum on the middle peninsula is the way it quite literally keeps the region's boat. Through the building and use of wooden boats, asf helps young people turn their lives around and provides families, community groups and schools with meaningful educational, social and recreational experiences. since 1993, asf’s core focus has been a paid, work-based apprentice program serving dc, maryland and virginia.. The wooden boat building program is in many ways the renaissance program of the school, combining elements of each program. students rely upon and interpret plans created by yacht designers, work with wood and composite materials to build boats and install marine electrical and propulsion systems..
Boat builders in northern virginia pattern-making is moving along and pretty soon i'll start cutting some very expensive wood. i've built two glued lapstrake boats, tom hill's 16' canoe and a nutshell, but corvus is a big step up for my skill level..
